PLA (polylactic acid) filament is amongst the oldest and still the most heavily used mediums in the 3D printing community, mainly due to its benefits as a versatile and environmentally friendly thermoplastic. Both organic and biodegradable, PLA is easily compounded with other ingredients to influence its final properties. RepRapFilament prints best at a temperature of roughly 200 degrees.
The filament should extrude smoothly and the end result appear slightly shiny.
PLA can print well on an unheated surface using Blue Painters or Kapton tape, and most 3D print stickers. For ease and convenience, we recommend using spray such as 3DLAC [1] on a glass bed. A low bed temperature between 50 - 60 degrees further reduces the chance of warping and makes final print removal easier once the print surface has cooled.
Beagle's are still being build all over Europe. One of our regulars to the Beer & Pizza party (next one is May 11th) ; Diede made an amazing build log of the Beagle. We really appreciate him creating the build log. It really visualizes the whole process of building your own Beagle Delta printer.

New colleague
Just started in April 2017 is Jaap van Wietmarschen. Jaap will be joining the sales team at RepRapWorld.
As some of you might have seen on the Facebook page, RepRapWorld was looking for a new account manager and they found that person in me. My name is Jaap (a typical Dutch name) and I have been involved in 3D printing for a few years. My background is in computer IT products, as a sales executive and in product development. Using that technical view I got invited to join XYZprinting and join the 3D printing community. Without any experience in 3D printing and a small 2 day introduction on how to disassemble and assemble the 3D printers XYZ sold, I just started like so many people; Sitting a few hours in front of a 3D printer watching the machine move and objects appear out of thin air.
To help you find the product you need faster and better we are always looking for ways to improve the customer website experience. The last few months a lot of things have been improved on the website. Here you will find an overview of the most important improvements:
- You can use the new filament browser to find your favorite 3d printer filament faster
- The products in any category can now be compared with each other. Press the compare button on any product to add it to the compare list. Go to the compare product page to easily compare them.
- The filaments category got a big overhaul. The products are now much easier to find on type and/or brand. Use the filters in each category to find a subset of products.
- We have added a lot of information to the categories, giving you a better understanding of the products
The upcoming weeks we will focus on getting the products in our shop up to date, with more information. Stay tuned for a lot of new products as well. Please let us know what you think about the changes!
