An easy to assemble, low cost and powerful feature-rich extruder universally compatible with every brand of 1.75mm filament.

On sale at an introduction price this month, only at Reprapworld.com!

The Gemstruder has been created with all-round performance in mind for 1.75mm diameter filaments, tested with common PLA, PETG and ABS brands all the way to more exotic plastics such as Nylon, Real Flex, along with metal- and wood-infused compounds. This design’s reliability is possible through it’s fully enclosed and snugly sealed filament path. There is even the option to add a pneumatic fitting/bowden tube on the input side of the extruder to extend the PTFE guide path (e.g. adding a filament run-out sensor).

  • Open-source model using industry-standard components
  • Ease of assembly and use
  • High speed reliable retractions
  • Powerful, quiet gearing
  • Hot feeding capable
  • Fully enclosed filament path
  • Compensation for slight filament tolerances

MeccanoThe idea was for children aged 10-12 to create materials which could be easily assembled into new objects during Code Club meeting hours. The Code Club is a weekly organized, Wednesday afternoon meeting at the local library where children are encouraged to be creative. The children are involved with using a 3D Printer, a 3D Pen, programming small robots, making music with fruits, and lots of other ideas (including this Meccano idea).

When the project came along my first thoughts were about Meccano. A toy from my youth which consisted of metal strips and bars. Because of the development of Lego's and Play Mobile the metal Meccano disappeared. But I felt that Meccano is still a great toy which is allows children to play and learn about the basics of constructing and gain some technical skills. Because we all hear on the Dutch news technical educated people are in high demand I decided to start using the 3D Printer to (re)create the Meccano parts.
